World Cup : England Striker Eniola Aluko Fires Blanks; Switzerland Young Star Eseosa Aigbogun Comes Off Bench
Published: June 09, 2015
Anglo - Nigerian forward Eniola Aluko is still searching for her first goal in a Fifa tournament after firing blanks on Tuesday in England’s narrow 1 - 0 loss to France in their opening game in Group F at the World Cup.
Although Aluko lasted 90 minutes on the Moncton Stadium, New Brunswick turf, she struggled today as Three Lionesses manager Mark Sampson decided to play with a solitary striker.
Still at the Fifa Women’s World Cup, FC Basel sensation Eseosa Aigbogun came off the bench in the 46th minute but could not prevent her team from losing 1 - 0 to one of the pre - tournament favourites Japan in a Group E fixture.
Three years ago, Eseosa Aigbogun was on target for the Swiss U20s in their 2 - 1 loss to New Zealand at the Fifa Under 20 World Cup.
Before she debuted for Switzerland in an official game, she had pledged her international future to Nigeria only to be snubbed by the Super Falcons coaches.
