Super Falcons Skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku Not Scared Of Australia
Published: June 11, 2015
Super Falcons skipper skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku says her side fear no one as they target victory against Australia in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Group D match-up on Friday night.
Despite being massive underdogs, Nigeria started their tournament with a well-earned 3-3 draw with one of the pre-tournament favourites Sweden on Monday at the Winnipg Stadium.
“We played a good game against a strong team and I believe better days lies ahead of us,” Nwabuoku said
“We have a very young side – I think one of the youngest in the tournament. That means we are yet to play to our full potentials.
Nwabuoku says that her Nigeria side, ranked 33rd in the world, fear no one in this tournament, and will go all out to win against the Australians.
“We have no fear,” she said. “We knew from the beginning that we were a team nobody would count as a favourite, but we are not scared of any opponent, and we have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so we can simply play our game.
“And that is what we want to do in our next match against Australia.”
The Kazakstan-based midfielder also appealed to the fans to be patient with the team.
“It’s about winning and we all win together. The fans have supported us all this while and I will just urge them to be patient with us.”
