In search of an offensive reinforcement, United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira had attempted to sign CSKA Moscow attacker Ahmed Musa in the summer.
The Nigeria international rejected the advances of Al Jazira by penning a fresh four - year deal with the Muscovites late May.
The Abu Dhabi - based team later turned their attention to Ivory Coast international Gervinho after Musa and his reps threw a spanner in the works, according to footafrica365.com.
Ahmed Musa has worn the jersey of CSKA Moscow since 2012, scoring 36 goals in 124 appearances.
