Published: June 28, 2015
Kano Pillars threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Dolphins in a League match on Sunday evening.
Pillars goals were scored by Adamu Mohammed and Godspower Anefiok while Godbless Asamoah and Jonathan Zikiye were on song for Dolphins.
The reigning league champions were eleven minutes away from winning 2-1 but conceded a 79th minute equaliser.
Action was fast and furious almost throughout and the players deserve great credit for producing a top class NPFL clash.
The home team started like a house on fire and blazed their way to a two-goal lead in the 18th and 47th minute respectively.
Adamu got Pillars started, scoring the opening goal in the 18th minute. The attacker latched onto a rebound after Rabiu Ali’ s free kick was spilled to the path of the former Gombe United man by goalkeeper Godwin Anyalogu.
The visitors’ defence seemed to have gone Awol again in the 47th minute when Anefiok showed fine composure to beat Anyalogu with a low perfect strike and put Pillars 2-0 up.
Dolphins pulled a goal back very much against the run of play in the 67th minute. Asamoah fired into the bottom corner of the net.
The visitors’ finally created a chance on 79 minutes when Zikiye was handed a shooting chance from the edge of the box and delivered a good strike into the back of the net to make it 2-2.
The late goal was heartbreaking for Pillars’ players and fans, but the Pride of Rivers probably deserved a share of the spoils on the balance of play.
