Leon Balogun Wants Nigeria To Return To The Pinnacle Of African Football
Published: July 03, 2015
New Mainz acquisition Leon Balogun has opined that the main target of the Super Eagles is to return to the pinnacle of African football after they failed to defend the African Cup of Nations trophy in 2015.
Having added to his international caps in the Afcon qualifier against Chad three weeks ago, the right - back is thinking ahead, and has stated that Nigeria will need to play 12 more games to win the African title in two years time.
“The team has missed the last African Nations Cup, before she won the title,” Balogun told Kicker.
“Our ââgoal is to stabilize and to come back to the top of African football, where Nigeria has always been with Ghana and the Ivory Coast.
“We won the first game against Chad. Hopefully twelve more will follow, so we play the final.”
Balogun was supposed to start pre - season training with Mainz next week but voluntary cut short his vacation. He trained with his new teammates on Friday.
