Cup In Honour Of Kogi State Governor Already Discovering Talents
Published: September 01, 2015
Umarr Isah, the Chairman of Kogi Football Association says the ongoing Kogi Governor’s Cup is already yielding results with young talents being discovered at the grassroots level in the state.
With the football event returning for the first time since 2010 and second in 19 years, the chairman said his board’s motive behind staging the competition were in desire to develop the game and providing platform for talents discovery.
Isah applauded the support of the Kogi state government and stakeholders but however appealed to Alhaji Aliko Dangote, owner of Obajana Cement Factory to support youths empowerment through cooperate partnership with the state’s football body.
“We (Kogi FA) decided to organize the football competition in a partial fulfillment of our campaign promises during the election to encourage grassroots football,” Isah told media in Lokoja.
“I’m very excited from what I’ve watched so far. A lot of talents have been discovered already and we still hope look out for more. We are bringing back the glory of football.
“We saw the spectacular display from Kabba/Bunu goalkeeper who has potential of playing for top Nigerian clubs. I will urge coaches to come around and see these talents.
“Government and the FA cannot develop football alone, so we want to appeal to corporate organisations and private companies to partner with us in the discovering of football talents at the grassroots.
“We have many companies in the state especially, Dangote who is yet to make meaning contribution to empowering the youths," he continued.
“I believe Dangote can do more in terms of Community Social Responsibility, CSR for youth’s development by supporting our domestic football talents either through advertisement and sponsorship,” he concluded.
