Obafemi Martins In Sight Of Becoming Most Efficient Striker In MLS History
Published: October 01, 2015
With 14 goals from 18 matches, Seattle Sounders frontman Obafemi Martins is the most efficient striker in Major League Soccer this season, and he is on the verge of setting another record in the American top flight.
Only last weekend, Martins netted his fifth goal on the spin to join Fredy Montero in the history books as the only players to have netted in five straight games for the CenturyLink Field outfit.
In three efficiency - based measurements - goals per game, scoring percentage and shots on goal percentage - the Nigeria international is the top ranked player in the MLS.
The 30 - year - old’s 14 goals came from 38 shots and is within distance of beating the record currently held by ex New York Red Bulls attacker Adolfo Valencia, who scored 16 times from 60 shots back in the 2000 season.
Since Obafemi Martins arrived the MLS from Levante in 2013, Seattle Sounders have only lost once when the Nigerian hits target and have posted 28 wins and drawn 2 matches.
