Vincent Enyeama Stripped Of Super Eagles Captaincy By Oliseh
Published: October 07, 2015
Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has confirmed that CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa is the new captain of the national team after falling out with the ex skipper Vincent Enyeama, who took over from ex Everton defender Joseph Yobo after the 2014 Word Cup.
In the absence of Vincent Enyeama for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania, Musa was handed the captain’s armband and impressed Oliseh with his leadership qualities and has decided to stick by him.
“There is no captain tussle. Going forward, I need a player who is a regular in the team and it is Ahmed Musa, who did a great job in Tanzania under difficult circumstances,” Oliseh told Brila FM.
“He is the captain of the team, not somebody who is thinking of retirement. A captain has to lead by example. We are not here to build stars.
“There is no talk of conforming, if you can’t work with us you can leave.”
Aside suggestions of a rift with Enyeama, Sunday Oliseh’s decision to appoint Musa as captain questions his competence as a manager, as Chelsea’s Obi Mikel has been playing for the national team for more than a decade, five years before the ex Kano Pillars star made his international debut.
