Samuel Chukwueze Steals The Show As Golden Eaglets Thrash Chile
Published: October 21, 2015
The Golden Eaglets qualified for the second round of the Fifa Under 17 World Cup on the heels of their resounding 5 - 1 win over hosts Chile on Wednesday morning.
Samuel Chukwueze broke the deadlock after 22 seconds, when he turned in Victor Osimhen’s inviting ball into the Chilean penalty area.
On 17 minutes, skipper Kelechi Nwakali kept his cool to convert a penalty after the referee pointed to the spot for a foul on the lively number 8, Chukwueze.
The Diamond Academy midfielder made it 3 - 0 with a sweet finish on the hour mark, dancing his way into the box and slammed a shot post Lopez after his initial effort was blocked.
The goals kept coming in the second half. Victor Osimhen got his name on the scoresheet six minutes later, firing home from the penalty spot after Chukwueze was felled.
The hosts did get a consolation nine minutes from time through Marcelo Allende, who slammed past Akpan Udoh from Luciano Diaz’s cross.
On 86 minutes, Osimhen grabbed his third goal of the tournament, two minutes after Funsho Bamgboye was dismissed for a rash challenge.
The Emmanuel Amuneke - led side will wrap up group play on Friday with a game against Croatia at Estadio Sausalito, Viña del Mar.
They will top Group A no matter the outcome of that fixture, with USA and Croatia playing out a 2 - 2 draw earlier in the day.
