Super Eagles Tactics See Them Qualify For CHAN, Hold Burkina Faso To Draw
Published: October 25, 2015
The home - based Super Eagles secured their place at the 2016 African Nations Championship on Sunday evening on the heels of their goalless draw with Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou.
Unlike the first leg in Port Harcourt that ended 2 - 0 in favour of the Super Eagles, they were more conservative in their approach today and preferred to sit back and rely more on counter attacks.
The major talking point in the game was in the first half, precisely the 21st minute, when the Libyan referee awarded a penalty kick to Burkina Faso after Austin Oboroakpo handled the ball in the box.
But the Eagles were handed a reprieve after The Stallions lost the opportunity to get their noses in front, after the penalty was missed.
In the second half, coach Salisu Yusuf demonstrated he was in search of a goal to kill the game as a contest over two legs when he introduced Warri Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami and Chisom Chikatara while he shored up his defense by substituting Jamiu Alimi and bringing on Stephen Eze.
But there were no goals in this one and the Super Eagles will be heading off to Rwanda next January to compete in the African Nations Championship for the second time.
