Sunderland Decide Against Signing Chinedu Obasi
Published: October 27, 2015
Sunderland have passed up the opportunity to sign Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi after trials that lasted for about a week.
According to the Daily Mail, the former Schalke 04 and Lyn Oslo man failed to prove he was in tip - top condition after breaking his leg earlier this year.
Sunderland have struggled in the Premier League in the ongoing campaign and manager Sam Allardyce wants to enter the free agent market for players that can make an immediate impact over the next three weeks.
Assuming Chinedu Obasi was offered a contract, he would have escaped the strict work permit requirements needed to play in the English Premier League, having been awarded a German passport in March 2015.
The 29 - year - old had been linked with a shift to Besiktas in the summer but later told allnigeriasoccer.com that the reports were far from reality.
