Golden Eaglets Cruise Into Semi - Finals, Beat Brazil 3 - 0
Published: November 01, 2015
The Golden Eaglets have set up a semi - final clash against either Mexico or Ecuador on the heels of their 3 - 0 thrashing of one of the pre - tournament favourites Brazil on Sunday night at the Estadio SausalitoVina Del Mar.
Nigeria uncharacteristically started the game slowly, with the South Americans having more than two opportunities to open scoring but Rogerio and Evander fluffed their lines or were denied by the impressive Akpan Udoh.
Top scorer Victor Osimhen put the defending champions in front in the 29th minute after he headed in fullback John Lazarus’s cross past goalkeeper Juliano.
And the game swung further in the Golden Eaglets favour barely a minute later when Kingsley Michael bagged his first goal of the tournament off an assist by Osimhen.
On 34 minutes, Anumudu put the seal on a fine individual performance with Nigeria’s third goal, striking the ball from distance and it sailed over the goalkeeper.
In the second half, Nigeria kept the tempo up and would have increased their lead but Osimhen, Bamgboye and Enogela failed to bury their chances.
On Thursday, Aspire Academy starlet Funsho Bamgboye will miss the semi - final tie at the Estadio Municipal Ester Roa
Concepcion after he was yellow - carded in the 69th minute against the Brazilians for a deliberate handball.
