Wolves Coach Pleased To See Carl Ikeme Play Through The Pain Barrier
Published: November 22, 2015
Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has applauded the professionalism of Super Eagles shot - stopper Carl Ikeme in his side’s 2 - 2 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Championship on Saturday.
The Nigeria international had to play through the pain barrier after picking up an injury in the first half but still managed to play the full game.
“Carl had cramp in his calves and hamstrings, even in the first half,” said Jackett to wolves.co.uk.
“That is unusual for a goalkeeper but when you consider the amount of travelling he has done with Swaziland and Nigeria in the last week, I think that is the reason. He battled through well.”
At a stage in the game, the manager wanted to replace Ikeme but had second thoughts after he picked up the pace.
“After the goal it looked like he would have to come off which wouldn’t be good as we already have Emi Martinez and Aaron McCarey injured.
“But he picked himself up and made a couple of good punches and interceptions at the end which really helped us.” added Kenny Jackett.
The 29 - year - old Anglo - Nigerian made his first start for Wolves in the Championship for close to three months against Ipswich Town.
