Skipper Azubuike Okechukwu Says Dream Team Wants To Emulate Golden Eaglets By Winning Title
Published: December 12, 2015
Azubuike Okechukwu says the Nigeria Under 23s want to emulate the performance of the Golden Eaglets in Chile by winning the final of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations against Algeria on Saturday.
The Yeni Malatyaspor midfielder knows all about the pedigree of the Algerian squad first hand, having faced them in the group stage of this competition and is aware the strikers will be playing against a compact defense.
“We are very proud to have reached the final, we knew from the beginning that we were able to get there because we were confident of our ability, ” Okechukwu told reporters.
“We worked very hard to achieve this and we will do everything to win this title that should not escape us.
“We won the World Cup for players below 17 years and we want to win another continental title .”
The Dream Team VI will be without Warri Wolves midfielder Stanley Dimgba while Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to undergo a late fitness test after he missed the semifinal clash with Senegal on account of injury.
