Mikel Turns From Zero To Hero As Chelsea Lose To PSG In UCL
Published: February 16, 2016
John Obi Mikel turned from zero to hero in the space of six minutes as Chelsea narrowly lost 2-1 to PSG at the Parc des Princes, Paris in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The homers dominated in the first half but didn’t take the lead until the 39th minute through Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
A free kick given away by Mikel led to the goal. Ibrahimovic’s strike was low, the ball hit Mikel and it changed direction and deceived goalkeeper Courtois.
In the first minute of first-half stoppage time, the PSG defense failed to clear Willian’s corner from the right wing and the ball met Mikel, who took a touch before volleying home.
Substitute Cavani netted the game-winner in the 78th minute, firing through Courtois’ legs from a tight angle.
Mikel, who played the full game, had only scored once, against Sporting Lisbon in December 2014, prior to this night’s contest against the Parisians.
