Obi Mikel Explains Why He Fouled Lucas Moura
Published: February 17, 2016
John Obi Mikel is not writing off Chelsea’s chances of advancing to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League despite the Londoners suffering a 2-1 loss at the hands of PSG on Tuesday night.
The Nigeria international admitted that he had to foul Lucas Moura because he was approaching Chelsea’s penalty box.
“I had to fall in because he was going deeper and deeper into our 18-yard box,” Mikel told reporters.
“I had to, if not get the ball, foul him, which I did. And then the free kick as well just skipped off my feet and went into the back of the net.
“But we came back strong as well, but we’re very disappointed to have lost the game.”
The Chelsea number twelve added : “We know they’re a very good team. Our aim was to come out here and get a goal and we’ve done that tonight.
“We still have the second leg to play back home, so we have to take that back home and capitalise on that and make sure we build on that.”
