Emenike Denied Hat-trick In First Start For West Ham As Moses Sparkles
Published: February 21, 2016
Emmanuel Emenike netted twice in his first start for West Ham in their 5-1 rout of Blackburn Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Super Eagles creator Victor Moses equalized for the Claret and Blue visitors in the 26th minute after Ben Marshall had put the homers in front six minutes earlier.
On 61 minutes, Fenerbahce loanee Emenike put the Hammers 3-1 up after a pass from Kouyate, and Moses was involved in the build-up to the goal.
Five minutes from time, the former Nigeria international beat the offside trap, showed great composure before firing home for West Ham’s fourth goal.
He was denied a hat-trick in stoppage time after the assistant referee adjudged him to be offside before his tap in from close range. The number 29 had hit the upright five minutes before that incident.
Four players of Nigerian descent - Emenike, Moses, Ogbonna and Akpan- were named in the starting lineup of both teams and they all went the distance except Ogbonna , who subbed out in the 78th minute.
