Published: February 26, 2016
Major League Soccer team Seattle Sounders have finally confirmed that Obafemi Martins has been traded to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua FC of the Chinese Super League for an undisclosed fee.
The Nigeria international spent two seasons with the Rave Green, notching 40 goals in 72 appearances.
“We wish Obafemi success on his next challenge. Ultimately this transaction gives us roster and salary cap flexibility heading into our 2016 MLS season, including the opening of a Designated Player position,” said Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey to the official website.
“We have a talented and capable group in our locker room, and we’re excited for the year ahead.”
Though the transfer fee has not been mentioned, it is understood that the Americans will pocket $2 million from the sale of their Designated Player.
