FC Dallas Striker Akindele Unfazed By Prospect Of Facing Mexico At Azteca Stadium
Published: March 29, 2016
Canada national-teamer Tesho Akindele is unfazed by the prospect of facing Mexico at Estadio Azteca on Tuesday night despite the Canadians suffering a 3-0 home loss to the opponents last Friday.
The Canadian squad have been well received since their arrival in Mexico but it will be a totally different ball game during the game, with several passionate El Tricolor supporters expected to show up for the rematch.
“We control our own destiny. That’s the mentality,” Akindele told MLSsoccer.com.
“Everybody’s saying, ‘Look, we’re in a great spot, we have one of the best teams that Canada Soccer has ever had, and we’re pretty confident right now.”
He added : “People have told me it’s an intimidating atmosphere with the stadium and the fans, but I’m not going to be sitting here worrying, worst-case scenario, how intimidating it might be.
“We’ll see, when the time comes; I think we’ll all be able to deal with it.”
The 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year started on the bench at the BC Place Stadium (Vancouver, British Columbia), but was introduced seven minutes from time.
