A Star Is Born! Iwobi Takes Spotlight As Arsenal Thrash Watford
Published: April 02, 2016
Alex Iwobi registered his name on the score sheet as Watford suffered defeat for the fourth Premier League game in a row, losing 4-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon in the 32nd round.
The Gunners had a perfect start with Alexis Sanchez tapping home from close range in the fourth minute after a cross by Iwobi.
On 14 minutes, the Nigeria international showed great presence of mind when he curled the ball but it was tipped over by the Hornets goalie Gomes.
The burgeoning partnership between Iwobi and Sanchez yielded dividends seven minutes before the interval when the Nigerian finished off an excellent delivery from the Chilean star.
Bellerín scored a third for Arsenal two minutes out of intermission and the Super Eagles rising star would have grabbed his third goal in Arsenal colours but saw his effort come off the crossbar in the 51st minute.
Substitute Theo Walcott, who replaced the number 45, added more gloss to the scoreline in the 90th minute.
The 19-year-old Iwobi was substituted in the 74th minute, while Odion Ighalo made way for Amrabat before the start of the second half.
