Published: May 15, 2016
The England U17s were knocked out of the UEFA European U17 Championship on Sunday at the quarterfinal stage after losing 1-0 to Spain at the Bakcell Arena, Baku.
Head coach Steve Cooper named Fulham midfielder Dennis Adeniran in the starting line-up while the two remaining players of Nigerian descent Tolaji Bola (Arsenal) and Samuel Shashoua (Tottenham Hotspur) were on the bench.
England dominated the second half but had no answer to Francisco García’s brilliant individual goal in the 11th minute.
With 67 minutes gone, Shashoua replaced Dennis Adeniran and the Spurs attacking midfielder did not come close to scoring before the final whistle was blown.
The Young Lions had beaten France and Denmark in the group stage after losing to Sweden in their opening game.
