Michael Babatunde Joins Qatar SC From Raja; To Pocket N720 Million Signing Bonus
Published: May 30, 2016
Moroccan club Raja Casablanca have announced via their official webpage that they have reached an agreement with Qatar Sports Club over the sale of Nigeria international Michael Babatunde.
The attacking midfielder played a leading role in Raja’s rise on the table after a dismal start to the season, following his capture in the winter transfer market.
Qatar SC will pay The Green Eagles $1.1 million in compensation for agreeing to shred their agreement with Babatunde three years before its expiration, while the player will receive $2.1 million (approximately N720m in Nigerian currency) signing bonus.
Raja Casablanca have stressed that they have decided to sell the Nigerian because he insisted on moving on to pastures new and there was a clause inserted into his contract that allowed him to join a new team if the suitor should meet his $600,000 release clause.
Babatunde was in action on Sunday evening in Raja’s 5-1 rout of Hassania Agadir in the Botola Pro, two days after he notched a helper in the Super Eagles 1-0 win over Mali in an international friendly.
The 23-year-old previously represented FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih, FC Volyn Lutsk and FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk before joining Raja on a free transfer.
Qatar Sports Club lost their topflight status at the end of the 2015-2016 season after finishing 13th on the 14-team table.
