Nigeria U23s Coach Sticks With Liverpool Striker Awoniyi; Player Applies For US Visa
Published: June 16, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Taiwo Awoniyi has been included in Nigeria’s provisional roster for the Olympic Games, contrary to speculations in the local media that coach Samson Siasia will axe the Liverpool striker after he failed to live up to expectations during the Suwon Invitational Tournament in June.
Those rumours were finally put to rest when Awoniyi accompanied the squad to the United States Embassy in Abuja on Thursday morning to apply for a visa.
The Nigeria U23s just returned back to their hotel after their individual interviews with the United States embassy officials and no date was given for the players to pick up the visas.
The African champions are in Group B of the 2016 Olympic Games and will lock horns with Japan, Sweden and Colombia in their group games.
