Promising Youngsters Iheanacho, Adarabioyo Shine As City Lose To Bayern
Published: July 20, 2016
Manchester City suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to German champions Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in Pep Guardiola’s first game in charge.
Kelechi Iheanacho and Tosin Adarabioyo were among the teenagers named in the starting XI by the Spanish manager and he was satisfied with their performance despite the loss to his former team.
The Nigeria national-teamer was lively in the first half and was unlucky not to score in the 22nd minute when he curled a shot that landed on the roof of the net with the goalkeeper beaten.
Oleksandr Zinchenko had the best chance to score for the visitors after seven minutes but his effort was blocked after he received a pass from Iheanacho.
Bayern Munich fullback David Alaba and Iheanacho were replaced for the start of the second half while Adarabioyo worked a ninety-minute shift.
City face Premier League rivals Manchester United at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing in their next friendly.
