Academy Boss Explains Why Man City Wonderkid Iheanacho Rejected Move To Arsenal
Published: August 07, 2016
Taye Academy supremo Kennedy Ezenwere has explained why he failed to sanction the transfer of Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho to English Premier League club Arsenal in 2014.
The Gunners hierarchy had sent their former chief scout Steve Rowley to run the rule over the former Golden Eaglets sensation at the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup, but a deal never materialized.
“Arsenal were interested in Kelechi but I blocked the move, there was a problem with the agent brokering the deal, ” Ezenwere told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I picked Manchester City ahead of Arsenal not because of money. I know if he goes to Man City he has a better chance of playing there than Arsenal and I have been proved right.
“Kelechi has now become very popular, it wouldn’t have been so if he joined Arsenal.”
The 19-year-old Kelechi Iheanacho was also offered a contract by Chelsea, but he rejected their advances for Manchester City.
