Nigerian Defender Set To Make Chelsea First - Team Debut Eight Years After Joining Club
Published: August 23, 2016
Nigerian defender Ola Aina is poised to make his competitive debut for Chelsea when they tackle Bristol Rovers in the Football League Cup Second round at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
With manager Antonio Conte expected to rotate his squad as he eyes the Premier League tie with Burnley, Aina is expected to be in action from the start against the League One opponents.
Towards the end of last season, Nigerian talents Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori were handed their debuts, while Aina was an unused substitute in games against Walsall (League Cup) and Swansea City (Premier League).
Born in London , the 19-year-old right fullback joined Chelsea at the age of 11 after he was scouted by Tottenham, Millwall and Southampton.
It is assumed that Nigeria international John Obi Mikel will not take part against Bristol Rovers and Victor Moses will be included in the squad by the Italian manager.
