Mourinho Suggests Iheanacho May Start Against Manchester United
Published: September 09, 2016Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will have to adapt to the tactics of City coach Pep Guardiola in tomorrow’s derby.
With Sergio Aguero suspended for the trip to Old Trafford, the Portuguese coach has suggested that his rival may decide to change his formation, with Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho among his options.
“He could decide to play with Iheanacho or Sterling. He could decide to play with Silva as a fake no.9 between the lines,’’ said Mourinho to reporters during Friday’s press conference.
“It is clear that they have many options. That for us, in the preparation of the game, makes us have to go step-by-step with every situation because we are trying to reduce the unpredictability of the game.’’
Iheanacho, 19, was a non-playing substitute in the last meeting between the two teams at the Etihad Stadium, and appeared off the bench last October, replacing Bony with seven minutes remaining.
He has not started a match in the Premier League so far this season.
