Fifa Will No Longer Control Golden Ball Award As France Football Ends Partnership

France Football has announced on its official webpage that it has ended its collaboration with Fifa regarding the awarding of the Ballon d’Or.
In 2010, the famous French sports publication signed a five-year agreement with Fifa for a joint presentation of the award, which is determined by votes from national coaches and captains, plus representatives of the media.
France Football disclosed that more details will be revealed next Tuesday, September 20.
Since 1956, France Football has awarded the European Footballer of the Year or Ballon d’Or before merging with the FIFA World Player of the Year award to create the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2010.
Retired Liberia international and AC Milan striker George Weah is the first and only African to win the Ballon d’Or.
