Super Eagles Coach Yet To Sound Out Germany U21 Star Akpoguma About Representing Nigeria
Published: September 22, 2016
Fortuna Düsseldorf central defender Kevin Akpoguma remains committed to Germany at international level amid speculations in the media that he might be called up for the World Cup qualifier against Zambia on October 9.
And contrary to those reports, the ex-Germany U20 skipper has not yet been sounded about the possibility of pledging his international future to Nigeria by new Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr - in the first place.
Former Nigeria U23 international, Germany - based Darlington Omodiagbe, had earlier attempted to convince Akpoguma to play for Nigeria but was unsuccessful, despite being close to the player and his father.
“Kevin Akpoguma has not yet been contacted by the new Super Eagles coach. He is in the best position to decide which country he wants to play for, ”Kevin’s uncle Isaac Akpoguma told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Kevin Akpoguma was born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße 21 years ago to a German mother and a Nigerian dad from Delta State but grew up in Benin City.
He has caps for Germany’s U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 National Teams, and he believes he still has a chance to play for the senior team if he continues with this progression.
