Published: October 27, 2016
Liverpool have agreed a deal with Football League One club Bury to sign their talented Nigerian central defender Emeka Obi, subject to approval from the Premier League.
Aged 15, the tall stopper is regarded as one of the most talented teenagers in England, and made his competitive debut for The Shakers in their 4-1 rout of Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy in August.
The following month, Obi was an unused substitute in Bury’s home win over Port Vale in the English third-tier.
He was on the radar of several teams higher up the division, including Stoke City before he was poached by The Reds.
Former Golden Eaglets trainee Ovie Ejaria, Sheyi Ojo and Tiago Ilori, who are eligible to represent Nigeria, play for the youth team of Liverpool.
