Unlucky Alex Iwobi Scores Own Goal As Arsenal Are Held By PSG
Published: November 23, 2016
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi put the ball into his own net in Arsenal’s entertaining 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates in the fifth round of games in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Both teams were ahead during the game but could not protect their lead, with the tie ending deadlocked after ninety minutes just as in Paris on September 13.
For long periods in the first half, the visitors were the better side and deservedly went in front in the 18th minute through Edinson Cavani, who tapped the ball in, after Blaise Matuidi directed a ball squarely in the box.
The Gunners managed to restore parity in the first minute of stoppage time when Olivier Giroud converted a spot kick. The referee had blown for a penalty after Grzegorz Krychowiak fouled Alexis Sanchez in the box.
PSG found themselves behind in the 60th minute, with Marco Verratti scoring an own goal and they were behind for only 17 minutes.
Iwobi, just before he was replaced, deflected the ball past Ospina as the Arsenal goalkeeper was about claiming the ball .
PSG are on top of Group A on account of their better head-to-head record against Arsenal, the away goals coming into play.
