Alex Iwobi Benched Again As Arsenal Return To Winning Ways
Published: November 27, 2016
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was a non-playing substitute for the second consecutive match in the Premier League as Arsenal got the win they needed to get themselves back on track after three successive draws in all competitions.
The Gunners took the lead in the 12th minute through Alexis Sanchez after Steve Cook was guilty of making a defensive error, but the visitors equalized 11 minutes later when Callum Wilson scored from the penalty spot.
Bournemouth had two very good chances to take the lead before half-time but Adam Smith and Brad Smith fluffed their lines.
The Cherries were resilient, defended in numbers and made it difficult for Arsenal to break down in the first half, while the home team failed to take control of proceedings and didn’t stamp their authority.
Bournemouth were made to pay for their wasted opportunities in the 53rd minute when Arsenal went back in front courtesy of Theo Walcott’s header, before Sanchez tapped the ball in in the closing minutes after the opponents failed to pick up his run.
The goal sealed the three points for Arsenal and kept them within touching distance of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the standings.
