Arsenal’s English-born striker of Ghanaian ancestry Edward Nketiah bagged a hat-trick as the U23 team thrashed Leicester City 3-0 in Premier League 2 on Monday night.
In doing so, the 17-year-old became the first player to score three goals for Arsenal at that level since Nigeria international Alex Iwobi managed to achieve the feat on April 7, 2015 against Stoke City.
Against the Potters, Iwobi hit target in the 24th minute, scored his second after 41 minutes before bagging his hat-trick in the last minute of normal time.
Three players of Nigerian descent featured at Meadow Park : Tolaji Bola (Arsenal), Joshua Debayo and Layton Ndukwu (both Leicester City).
Iwobi was perhaps the top star in Arsenal U23 team before he was promoted to the first team in the second part of last season.
