Talented Nigerian Midfielder Uwakwe Making Inroads At Chelsea
Published: December 06, 2016
England U18 international of Nigerian ancestry Tariq Uwakwe was on target as Chelsea U23s beat German side Nurnberg 2-0 in a friendly game at Cobham on Monday afternoon.
The central midfielder found the net in the 37th minute to give the Blues a two-goal advantage heading into the interval.
Uwakwe, 17, represents the U18 team of Chelsea, for whom he has made eleven appearances in the U18 Premier League this term, but it appears he is on the periphery of the U23 squad after he was handed game time against the German opponents.
He has seen his stock rise in the current campaign after making his debut for England, and scoring his first goal for Chelsea eight years after joining the club.
The highly-rated youngster was open to representing the Nigerian national team before earning his first England call-up.
