Nigerian Trio Shine As Liverpool Draw 1-1 With West Brom
Published: December 07, 2016
Three players of Nigerian descent Ovie Ejaria, Tiago Ilori and Sheyi Ojo helped Liverpool secure a 1-1 draw against West Brom in the Premier League Cup at Prenton Park on Tuesday night.
Ojo, who will play for the Reds U23s for the time being after recovering from injury, provided an assist for the equalizer netted by Cameron Brannagan in the 73rd minute.
The winger would have bagged the winner but saw his effort cleared off the line, and Ejaria also had a chance to register his name on the score-sheet but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
The three English-born Nigerian players were rested as Liverpool U23s were held to a goalless draw by German side FC Nürnberg in a friendly staged at the Academy on Wednesday morning, having lasted the distance against the Baggies.
Of the aforementioned players, only Ejaria has played for the first team of Liverpool in a competitive fixture this season.
