Republic Of Ireland Youth-Teamer Afolabi On Target For Southampton
Published: March 12, 2017
Southampton began the second phase of the U18 Premier League in fine form after beating Brighton 2-0 at Staplewood Training Ground on Saturday.
Nigerian striker Michael Obafemi returned to the Saints starting eleven, having spent six weeks on the sidelines due to injury, and was one of the eight changes made to the squad.
It was Obafemi’s replacement, Jonathan Afolabi that stole the headlines after he made sure Southampton will secure all three points when he scored with three minutes remaining.
The 17-year-old Afolabi, who came on in the 69th minute, doubled the lead after he turned in a corner from Jake Vokins.
The Republic of Ireland youth international has netted four goals for the U18s this season, while Obafemi has three goals to his name.
