Promising Nigerian Strikers On Target For Southampton, Stoke City
Published: April 09, 2017
Young Nigerian striker Michael Obafemi was on target as Southampton were held to a 2-2 draw by West Brom in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints had trailed the opponents 2-1 at the end of the first half despite opening the scoring in the third minute.
But Obafemi fired home from six yards in the 75th minute to draw his team level after Jonathan Afolabi’s cross wasn’t cleared properly.
Elsewhere, Stoke City recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at Clayton Wood Training Ground on Friday, with Ibadan-born striker Shola Ayoola finding the back of the net on nine minutes to give the Potters a two-goal cushion.
The Republic of Ireland youth-teamer could have added more gloss to the scoreline just after the restart but struck the woodwork.
