Chelsea's Nigerian Defender Scores Wonder OG As England Labour To 1-1 Draw Vs Guinea
Published: May 23, 2017
England U20s remain in control of Group A at the ongoing Fifa U20 World Cup despite playing a 1-1 draw with Guinea at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium on Tuesday morning.
Guinea started the game in a sluggish fashion and England were not able to take advantage, but the Africans got better as the game progressed.
Everton's Ademola Lookman, who was making his first start in South Korea, looked lively in the opening stages, and worked a space for himself beautifully but couldn't convert his chance in the eighth minute.
The Young Elephants almost got into a mess of their own making when they lost the ball, but Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo took his shot a little bit early and wiped the ball over the crossbar in the 34th minute.
There was nothing to separate the two sides until the 53rd minute when captain Lewis Cook opened the scoring for the Young Lions with a thunderous strike from 30 yards out.
Guinea were gifted the equalizer in unbelievable circumstances just before the hour mark, goalkeeper Henderson couldn't react to Fikayo Tomori's back pass from the edge of the center circle and the ball went into the net.
Joshua Onomah (Tottenham Hotspur) and Ovie Ejaria (Liverpool) were non-playing substitutes for this one, while two of the Young Lions most impressive players on parade Ojo and Lookman were substituted in the 63rd and 73rd minute respectively.
Paul Simpson's side face hosts South Korea in their final group match on Friday, May 26.
