Chelsea Midfielder Dubbed The New Mikel Helps England Register Third Straight Win
Published: June 04, 2017
Chelsea midfielder Tariq Uwakwe returned to the Young Lions starting line-up as they completed their group fixtures at the ongoing 2017 Toulon Tournament with a 2-1 win over Japan at Stade de Lattre-de-Tassigny on Sunday afternoon.
England had already qualified for the semifinals following wins against Angola and Cuba before facing the Asians today.
Despite dominating the early stages, Japan conceded in the 26th minute when Hirst converted his spot kick, and Uwakwe would have doubled the advantage four minutes later but his right-footed shot from outside the box narrowly missed target.
The Japanese equalized in the 53rd minute through Ando, but England had the last say with Taylor-Crossdale grabbing the winner in the last minutes.
Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo, who scored the winner against Angola, was not in action for the second straight game.
