England Coach Shocked Spurs Midfielder Onomah Was Sent OffEngland U20s manager Paul Simpson has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah did not deserve to be sent off in his side's 1-0 victory over Mexico on Monday at the ongoing World Cup.

With the Young Lions leading 1-0 courtesy of Dominic Solanke's goal two minutes into the second half, they were reduced to ten men when referee Mohammed Hassan dished out a red card to Onomah for mistakenly making contact on the ankle of Juan Aguayo.

“It was an incredible decision to send Josh Onomah off. I have no idea what the referee saw,” Paul Simpson said.

“We now have a player suspended for a World Cup semi-final game for a decision that is absolutely ridiculous.

“It was a really tough game against an excellent Mexico side and I’m absolutely delighted to get through. ”

Onomah, 20, has been one of England's standout players in South Korea, and has started four games in the competition.
