Published: July 22, 2017
England U20 World Cup-winning midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles says he is not surprised that Iwobi has been doing well since he broke into Arsenal's first team in the second half of the 2015-16 season.
The Nigeria international has played key roles for the Gunners in their pre-season games so far, notching assists against Sydney and WS Wanderers, and netting a crucial equalizer and penalty against Bayern Munich.
Ahead of an important friendly versus Chelsea on Saturday, Arsenal's youngsters have been fielding questions from fans.
@Ozilcentro asked : ''#ArsenalinBeijing to all the youngsters, how is it watching Iwobi excel in the first team now and what do you look to him for?''
And Maitland-Niles replied : ''It’s not a surprise because we’ve grown up together, but now it’s even better watching him do so well.''
The versatile Young Lions star added that Iwobi has inspired him to break into the first team, and he always speaks to the Nigerian about his journeys.
