New Signing From Ajax Shines As Manchester United Beat Northern Ireland In SuperCupNI
Published: July 22, 2017
Manchester United U18s began their campaign in the SuperCupNI with a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland U18 at the Coleraine Showgrounds on Saturday, July 22.
Two days after Manchester United confirmed the signing of Millen Barrs, the ex-Ajax Amsterdam wonderkid was named in the starting line-up by manager Kieran McKenna and the winger impressed against the Northern Irish opponents.
Switzerland youth international Nishan Burkart scored the only goal of the game when he blasted an unstoppable shot past the goalkeeper after he was teed up by Callum Whelan.
In the second half, United thought they had won a penalty when Lawlor brought down D'Mani Bughail-Mello, but the referee rightfully rejected their penalty claims.
Northern Ireland searched desperately for an equalizer but couldn't get it, Ryan Strain came close but his header went wide.
No player of Nigerian descent was included in Manchester United's 17-player roster for the SuperCupNI.
