Ola Aina Explains Why He Swapped His International Allegiance From England To Nigeria
Published: August 30, 2017
Chelsea loanee Ola Aina, 20, has explained why he swapped his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Subject to clearance from Fifa, the right back is in line to make his debut for the Super Eagles on Friday against Cameroon, after winning more than 35 caps for the Young Lions and captaining their U19 squad.
London-born Aina made up his mind to represent Nigeria ahead of his country of birth England after training with the three-time African champions in the English capital in March 2017.
''It was an introduction to it all to see what I thought of it,'' Aina told hullcitytigers.com.
''I hadn’t played for England at any level for quite a while, and international football is something that I wanted to experience. Also, Nigeria is where my origins are.
''I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the training camp and that was a key factor in my decision to switch.''
Ola Aina was named in Whoscored Championship Team of the Month for August 2017.
