Arsenal Loanee Nwakali : I Chose Number 25 Jersey Because Of Kanu
Published: September 06, 2017
Arsenal loanee Kelechi Nwakali has chosen to wear the number twenty-five jersey at his new Dutch Eredivisie club VVV Venlo, allnigerisoccer.com can exclusively report.
VVV Venlo had announced the capture of the attacking midfielder on the so-called transfer deadline day, August 31, without revealing his kit number.
It was earlier claimed that Nwakali wanted to suit up with the number ten jersey at Venlo, but his agent and brother Allwell Nwakali has explained why he picked the number 25 kit.
''Kelechi Nwakali has been handed the number twenty five jersey by VVV Venlo,'' Allwell Nwakali told allnigeriasoccer.com.
''He chose the jersey number because of Nwankwo Kanu, Kanu has been Kelechi's role model since he started playing
football''.
Last season, Kelechi Nwakali was allocated the number ten shirt at second-tier MVV Maastricht, same number he wore with pride for the Golden Eaglets at the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup.
VVV Venlo have won two of their first three matches in the Dutch top-flight this season and occupy the eighth position in the standings.
