Tammy Abraham Comes Close To Scoring As Swansea Lose To Newcastle
Published: September 10, 2017
With an hour played, the England U21 international ought to have scored but Jamaal Lascelles made a goal-saving block to deny the Chelsea loanee, who had rounded goalkeeper Robert Elliot.
Abraham recorded his fifth straight start for the Swans in all competitions so far this season, after he was named in the starting line-up by manager Paul Clement ahead of club hero Wilfried Bony.
It was goalless at the break but there were a couple of chances at both ends of the pitch.
The outcome of the game was settled by central defender Jamaal Lascelles, who powered his header into the roof of the net after a pinpoint delivery from Matt Ritchie in the 76th minute.
Before the international break, Abraham had registered his name on the score-sheet against Crystal Palace (Premier League) and MK Dons (League Cup).
