Why Victor Moses Was Benched Vs Qarabag? Chelsea Coach Explains
Published: September 13, 2017
Victor Moses could not make his fifth Champions League appearance for Chelsea in their 6-0 rout of Qarabag on Tuesday night, with new signing from Torino Davide Zappacosta getting the nod to start from manager Antonio Conte.
The former Italy gaffer has provided reasons why he started Zappacosta instead of his preferred choice at right wing-back last season.
''He (Davide) played a really good game but now he has to continue to work to improve,'' Conte told reporters, according to chelseafc.com.
''For sure he knew very well my style of football and my idea of football. For this reason, I decided to start with him. He was prepared to play. He played very well.''
He went on : ''For him it was his first appearance at Stamford Bridge. It’s not easy to totally change your sporting life in one week, but the answer was very good.
''He has said he wanted to cross, but he scored and it’s important for us.
''I am very pleased with the performance. Now we have to continue in this way with him and the other players. I had a positive answer from my players tonight''.
Goals from Pedro, Davide Zappacosta,Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesar Azpilicueta, Michy Batshuayi plus an own-goal secured a routine win for Chelsea against the Azerbaijani champions at Stamford Bridge.
