Why Jose Mourinho Will Not Hand Nigerian Duo Manchester United Debut Vs Burton
Published: September 20, 2017
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is unlikely to hand debuts to talented Nigerian duo Matthew Olosunde and Tosin Kehinde when the Premier League powerhouse face Burton Albion in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.
Kehinde and United States youth-teamer Olosunde started United's Premier League 2 clash at Chelsea on Monday night and were together on the pitch for 84 minutes before the midfielder was substituted.
Though the Nigerian-born talent enhanced his growing reputation with a superb first half strike, the game against Burton Albion has come too soon for him to be considered by Mourinho.
The Portuguese is expected to make some changes to the starting XI that thrashed Everton in the Premier League last weekend, but Olosunde is also out of the reckoning having lasted the distance against Chelsea two days ago.
''We don't have 30 players, we have what we have, and a couple of injuries right now with Paul Pogba and Axel Tuanzebe,'' Jose Mourinho told manutd.com.
''So we need some of the players that played on Sunday to play and we need some to be on the bench.
"We need to be with a strong team. I know the quality of the Championship and I know, if we don't take the game seriously, we are going to lose.''
Last season, Olosunde traveled with Manchester United's first team for Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal but didn't make the match day squad.
