NFF Not Worried Over Alex Iwobi Injury : That's Why There's A Standby List
Published: September 28, 2017
A top Nigeria Football Federation official has hinted that Alex Iwobi may be replaced in the latest Nigeria roster published this week if he doesn't shrug off his injury.
To call a spade a spade, the Nigerian Federation have regretted the injury suffered by Iwobi but are delighted that the core members of the team, the likes of Victor Moses, Obi Mikel and Leon Balogun, are in good health ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Zambia next weekend.
''If you look at out list, we have reserves,we have a standby list, so it is just a matter of regret that he is injured but I am sure he has been in contact with the technical adviser,'' a top Nigeria Football Federation staff told allnigeriasoccer.com.
''That's the reason we have reserves so that whenever something happens to somebody in the list we don't have to run helter-skelter to look for replacements.
''All these invitations follow a time-frame, so we make the requests early. We pray that these injuries don't happen to our main players. You know the core players.
''The list should not be questioned, most of the players that played the last two games are the ones coming in because we want continuity. ''
CSKA Moscow star Aaron Samuel is the only striker named on Nigeria's five-man standby list for the World Cup qualifier against the Copper Bullets.
