New Mikel : We Are Not Paying Attention To 1000-Day Unbeaten Run
Published: November 25, 2017
Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe, who has been labelled the New John Obi Mikel, has insisted that Chelsea U18s are not bothered by the stats ahead of their match against West Ham in the U18 Premier League on Saturday morning.
If Chelsea U18s remain undefeated in their next three home fixtures, they will get to the 1000-day landmark.
''We don’t think about it too much until right before the game, when everyone gets together to say “we can’t let the run end today” Uwakwe told chelseafc.com.
''Even if visiting teams go in front, I don’t think they have the belief at Cobham that they’re going to win the game.
''There’s a bit of fear for the opposition coming here and that drives us even more to win.''
The 18-year-old Uwakwe's appearances for Chelsea youth teams were curtailed by an injury at the start of this season, but he has returned to full fitness and has started four of the last five games in the league.
Chelsea U18s are undefeated in 45 home matches in all competitions since losing to Middlesbrough U18 on April 4, 2015.
