Several Premier League clubs plus teams based in Italy, Germany, France and Spain watched Benfica take on Basel in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, according to reports.
Scouts In Attendance has confirmed that Arsenal, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford, West Ham, Swansea City, Everton and Leicester City spies were present at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica (da Luz).
Other clubs sighted at the stadium include Barcelona, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Feyenoord, Montpellier HSC, OGC Nice, Marseille, Real Sociedad and Eibar.
Switzerland international of Nigerian descent Manuel Akanji made his sixth consecutive appearance in this season's Champion League against the Portuguese setup and put in an impressive shift.
The Wiesendangen native, who has a Nigerian father and Swiss mom, is contracted to FC Basel until the end of the 2020-2021 season.
Akanji became cap-tied to Switzerland when he made his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Faroe Islands in June 2017.
